Nigeria to leverage ICT for economic growth

The Nigerian government says it will leverage on information communication technology (ICT) to boost the economy.
This is in the light of dwindling revenue from oil, no thanks to consistent fall in its international prices.
Dr. Tunji Olaopa, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Communications Technology, said ICT has become an enabler for all sectors of the economy, adding that its application to human problem has become inevitable.
He said the Federal Government is aware that ICT is one of the sectors that have steadily contributed to the growth of the national gross domestic product (GDP) from 5.46 per cent in 2011, to 112.25 per cent in the second quarter of this year with 6.26 per cent growth in real terms.
Dr. Oloapaw ho spoke at the last DEMO Africa 2015 at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos, said: “This has not happened magically without strategic inputs from all stakeholders. While we have strengthened our industry with policies, interventions and programmes, the industry is also exploring the business opportunities of our fast growing and large consuming class (over 40 million people according to U.S McKinsey and Company) – by creating consumer facing ICT businesses across the country.
“While our ICT entrepreneurs are beginning to tap into this, there is still a huge opportunity for all players to democratise ICT entrepreneurship in order to leap frog into reaping in huge benefits of economic diversification and growth.”
He said the Federal Government will continue to nurture ICT innovators in the country through the provision of friendly policies, enabling environment and legislative frameworks that support their growth.
“As we realise day by day, we are compelled to embrace, explore and leverage on its roles to change things positively. From government perspective, we cannot afford to ignore the geese that lay the golden eggs – that is, the ICT innovators, the software and hardware developers, the ICT entrepreneurs.
“While they are incomplete without the entire ecosystem of investors, academia, and mentors and so on, we must continue to nurture them through enabling environment, platforms such as DEMO Africa, right policies and legislative framework that support their growth,” he added.
He noted that DEMO Africa has yielded positive results for African nations that have participated since its inception. Since participating in DEMO Africa in 2012, he pointed out, Nigeria has witnessed the emergence of at least 26 ICT startups with four in 2013, 14 last year and eight this year. “They have created jobs, raising funds to grow their businesses, expanding the frontier of entrepreneurship.”
To deepen the impact that platforms such as DEMO Africa has created in the country, he enjoined African governments to support innovation and entrepreneurship through various policies, initiatives and programmes that will not only support the ICT entrepreneurs, but also grow the innovation ecosystem.
“It is high time we stepped up our involvement in supporting them through various catalytic interventions, taking a cue from other nations like the United States (U.S), Britain, Israel, India, China,” he said.
The focus of the present administration, he opined, is strongly hinged on diversifying the economy, creating jobs and wealth that will improve the socio-economic lot of the people.

Orangutans kiss just like Spiderman and Mary Jane in the movie.

t's spider-ape!
This is the adorable moment mischievous Orangutans appeared to re-enact the famous kissing scene from the movie Spiderman.
The picture of Jazz and her four-year-old, Sprout, was taken by amateur photographer Kathryn Willett at Dudley Zoo in the West Midlands.
The 46-year-old supermarket worker visits the zoo at least three times a week to photograph the animals but did not initially make the link to the Spiderman scene starring Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst.

Meet the world most expensive phone| Falcon SuperNova Pink Diamond iPhone 6 ($95.5 Million)

The world is turning into something else you could imagine the world most expensive phone is worth more than a mansion hmmmn .......
One funny thing about the phone is just that there are no special features on the phone different from what we have seen in smartphones.
The makers of the SuperNova are nice enough to set you up on a payment plan for this phone. The only thing they ask is that you pay $95.5 million for it.
The phones aren’t over the top like the rest of on the list in terms of hundreds of diamonds, but instead have one main feature. There is an 18 karat gold casing which looks cool, but your eyes will be drawn to the huge diamond on the back. Falcon embedded a pink diamond and that alone was the leading cause for the huge price tag. There are cheaper versions of this phone, including one in platinum with a blue diamond, but it still costs $48.5 million.

Infinix as a mobile OEM brand needs no introduction as the company has become a household name in not only Nigeria, but other parts of the world.

The first time we got an insight in regards the Hot 2 x510 also referred to as the HOTTest One was in July. The device was officially launched on the 18th of August in Lekki, Lagos at the Landmark event of which, TechsNG was a part of.
We did an unboxing video of the device which currently has thousands of views on Youtube as well as a full review of the device and we tagged the phone ‘Affordability at it’s best ‘.
The infinix hot 2 was released in two variants; the 1GB RAM version and the 2GB RAM version. Sometime last month, we spent sometime with some reps of infinix mobility at a Slot outlet in ikeja and the most requested phone was the infinix hot 2 followed by the hot note.
Going back to the statistics provided by the company, over 150,000 units has been sold so far. The company gave a presized figure of 157,860 units and the company added that 70% of the sales are driven by E-commerce while the remaining 30% are achieved through traditional channels including operator’s retail stores.
Infinix mobility has gradually became the number 1 online smartphone brand in Nigeria and talking on the use of social media, infinix mobility CEO, Benjamin Jiang says:
We talk to our fans as they are our close friends. Infinix fans are much more than users, they are our main concern. The most important thing for us is to understand what consumers need, to provide smartphones that fit their needs”.
When asked how infinix mobility became the number one online smartphone brand in Nigeria, the company’s country manager, Bruno Li said:
My answer is customer’s participation. Infinix is not only selling devices, but the desire for its fans to build and be part of High-tech improvement”.
Based on the success of the infinix hot 2 device in Nigeria, the company is in the works of launching a
